Applying to the Max Planck School Matter to Life is a two-step process. This is the first step.

6. English language qualification

An internationally accepted language test (not older than 5 years from application deadline) such as TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language), IELTS (International English Language Testing System) or PTE (Pearson Test of English) is mandatory for applicants whose native language is not English. If you are unable to take the test before the application deadline, you can still apply without the test, but you will be required to take the test before admission into the program. In this case, indicate your English language proficiency, but leave all other fields blank.

7. Graduate Record Examination (GRE) General Test

The GRE General Test is mandatory for all students. Please input your scores below. You will be asked to upload a scanned version of your certificate in the next step of the application process. If you are not able to take the GRE test due to regional unavailability or financial hardships, please leave this section blank and include a document with a short description in your “CV with supporting documents” PDF in the document upload step.

8. Letters of Recommendation

Please add the contact details of at least two (up to five) referees who can attest to your research, academic, or professional abilities in the context of your interest in pursuing a graduate degree. We will contact referees for their letters, but we encourage you to notify them separately beforehand. At least one referee should not be a member of the Max Planck Gesellschaft.
